Join the Center for Women in Law for a virtual session on November 11 from 12 PM to 1 PM CST for Perspectives on the U.S. Supreme Court: The Court, Current Term, and Appellate Advocacy. This timely conversation will explore the Court’s current docket and shifting dynamics, and the realities of practicing before appellate courts.

Moderated by Texas Law Supreme Court Litigation Clinic Co-Directors Erin Busby and Lisa Eskow, this one-hour virtual panel discussion will feature distinguished practitioners Jessica Ellsworth, Jo-Ann Sagar, and Katherine Wellington of Hogan Lovells Cadwalader’s D.C. office.

Drawing on their extensive appellate experience briefing and arguing cases before the Court, the panelists will discuss:

  • Current Supreme Court Term: Major cases to watch and what they may signal for litigants, businesses and practitioners.
  • Doctrinal Shifts: Emerging legal trends in how the current Court approaches precedent, originalism, textualism and statutory interpretation.
  • Building an Appellate Practice: Career pathways, advocacy skills and practical advice for lawyers interested in clerkships, appellate and Supreme Court work.

The virtual discussion is designed for lawyers, law students, and legal leaders seeking both a substantive update on the Court and candid insight into the practice of appellate advocacy. The panelists will offer both substantive insights and practical lessons for lawyers at every stage of their careers.
