Susan Blount

Susan L. Blount served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Prudential Financial, Inc., where she was responsible for the company’s 700-person global law, compliance, business ethics and external affairs (LCBE) organization. Blount was also a member of Prudential’s Office of the Chairman Group, the six senior-most officers of the company.

Blount joined Prudential’s Law Department in 1985 as an attorney in the company’s commercial real estate operations. During her career at Prudential, Blount held a variety of leadership positions in the Law Department, including vice president and secretary for the Company through the period of Prudential’s demutualization in late 2001 and chief investment counsel.

Under Ms. Blount’s leadership, Prudential’s Law Department was recognized as one of the Most Innovative Law Departments by the Financial Times, an “Employer of Choice” by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, a Legal Department of the Year by the New Jersey Law Journal, and the Corporate Law Department of the Year by the NJ Hispanic Association. It also received special recognition by the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on the Recruitment and Retention of Lawyers and the Association of Diversity Councils honored LCBE’s Diversity Council.  Blount has been personally recognized as one of America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel by the National Law Journal and has received recognition from organizations such as the National Association of Women Lawyers, National Organization for Women-NYC, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and the New Jersey Law & Empowerment Project.

Prior to joining Prudential, Blount was an associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis.

Active in professional and community service, Blount was appointed to Cavco Industries Board of Directors in January of 2019. She was an  Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard University in 2017 and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law since 2016. She has served on the boards of Montclair State University (New Jersey’s second largest university), the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity, the Association of Corporate Counsel and the New Jersey Law and Education Empowerment Project (NJLeep). She currently serves as Vice Chair of the University of Texas Law School Foundation and as a trustee and Executive Committee member of the Nantucket Historical Association.

Blount graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in history and a J.D. with honors.
