Roberta D. Liebenberg is a senior partner at Fine, Kaplan and Black in Philadelphia, where she focuses her practice on class actions, antitrust, and complex commercial litigation. Ms. Liebenberg is the recipient of a number of distinguished awards, including the 2008 Sandra Day O’Connor Award by the Philadelphia Bar Association. This award is conferred annually on a woman attorney who has demonstrated superior legal talent, achieved significant legal accomplishments, and has furthered the advancement of women in both the profession and the community. The National Law Journal named Ms. Liebenberg as one of its “50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America.” She has been named as one of the “Top Ten Super Lawyers in Pennsylvania,” the only woman to receive this designation.

Ms. Liebenberg has held leadership roles in numerous organizations focused on the advancement of women in the legal profession and played a key leadership role in countless national initiatives. From 2008-2011, Ms. Liebenberg served as Chair of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession, whose first Chair was Hillary Rodham Clinton. Under her leadership, the Commission focused a spotlight on how implicit bias affects every aspect of a woman lawyer’s career by presenting several CLE webinars on this important topic and providing implicit bias training to law firms. In addition, the Commission held a Women in Law Leadership Academy to provide young women lawyers with the skills needed to become leaders in the profession. The Commission, along with MCCA and PAR, conducted the first-of-its kind study of women partners’ compensation. It convened two Summits of Women General Counsel and Senior In-House Counsel to discuss the findings of its study. The Commission also focused attention on the unique problems and the double bind of race and gender faced by women attorneys of color. After a three year hiatus, Ms. Liebenberg resumed the role of Chair of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession in 2014.

Ms. Liebenberg founded and continues to serve on the Advisory Board of “DirectWomen,” an ABA initiative to enable women lawyers to prepare for service as directors on corporate boards. In addition, Ms. Liebenberg serves as a delegate for Vision 2020, a national organization dedicated to shared leadership among men and women. She chaired the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession. She also served as Co-Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Committee. Ms. Liebenberg was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to the Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness, and serves as Chair of its Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victims Committee. Previously, she was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to its Committee on Racial and Gender Bias in the Justice System, where she was Co-Chair of the Gender Bias Committee.
