Center Poised to Continue Growth in Programming, Fundraising, and Engagement

AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 31, 2024) — Jennifer Banda, an experienced lawyer and advocate with deep roots in The University of Texas at Austin, will be the new Executive Director of The Center for Women in Law, effective Nov. 11.

The President of the Center’s Executive Committee, Cisselon Nichols Hurd, and the Center’s Executive Board announced Banda’s appointment.

“We’re thrilled to have Jennifer lead the Center as we continue to build opportunities for lawyers to connect, engage, and grow in the legal profession,” said Hurd. “Jennifer’s extensive track record of empowering women throughout her legal career and deep roots in policy and advocacy on key issues impacting women will keep the Center on track for advancing its strategic objectives and continued success.”

“Jennifer’s leadership and commitment to Texas Law make her an excellent choice to advance the Center’s mission,” noted Bobby Chesney, Dean of The University of Texas School of Law. “With her deep knowledge and experience in public policy and advocacy and mentorship, she is the ideal person to take on this important role. I’m looking forward to working with her.”

A dedicated lawyer and advocate with over twenty-five years of experience in state and federal government relations, Banda most recently served as Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Public Policy at the Texas Hospital Association. In addition to her healthcare association work, Banda has held leadership roles in the Texas House, Texas Senate, and Capitol Hill.

The Center’s extensive in-person and virtual programming is open to all.

“As an advocate and mentor for women in law, I know the Center’s work can play an important part in the success of all women in the legal profession. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to build on CWIL’s track record of success,” said Banda.
