On Friday, October 24th, 2014, The Center for Women in Law partnered with the New York City Bar to host the Women in Law Institute in New York City. Described by one partner at a top law firm as “the most practical tool I’ve encountered in my 20 years of practicing,” the Women in Law Institute was an all-day intensive workshop for law students, judicial clerks, and L.L.M. students.
“The Women in Law Institute gave female students and recent graduates the chance to work on perfecting the critical skills necessary to realizing their full potential in the legal practice,” said Linda Chanow, Executive Director of the Center.
Approximately eighty students from across the northeast attended the event, which featured Co-Carol Kanarek and Kathleen Brady, Founders of Kanarek & Brady LLC, and Diane Darling, Founder and CEO of Effective Networking as speakers. They emphasized the necessity of effective communication, self-promotion, and networking in order to achieve success in law. Following each lecture, attendees practiced these critical skills in small group settings with judges, general counsel, partners, and senior government and non-profit attorneys, as seen here.
Along with a “positive atmosphere and welcoming environment,” participants appreciated the “exercises and blunt feedback immediately following the lectures.”
The Center for Women in Law thanks the distinguished faculty members for their constructive critiques and speakers Carol Kanarek, Kathleen Brady, and Diane Darling for their insights.
