The Center for Women in Law is excited to host a Power Lunch Series conversation with Becky Melton, Vice President of Legal for SolarWinds, an Austin-headquartered global IT software company. SolarWinds is publicly traded on the NYSE but recently signed an agreement to be taken private by a private equity firm. This was after SolarWinds survived a highly sophisticated and unprecedented cyberattack by the Russian SVR during December 2020. A single case by the SEC pending in the SDNY is all that remains of the numerous legal and regulatory matters which ensued. SolarWinds expects to file its motion for summary judgment in that matter this spring.
Prior to her current position at SolarWinds, Melton was Employment Law Director at Freescale Semiconductor (now NXP), and Vice President and General Counsel at United Devices, a distributed computing startup she spent a year with prior to the tech crash in the early 2000s. She also spent four years as the Assistant Dean for Alumni Relations and Development at UT Law School. Melton spent the beginning of her career at Fulbright & Jaworski (now Norton Rose Fulbright) as a member of the firm’s litigation, appellate and labor and employment law sections.
During this one-hour conversation, Melton will discuss her legal career, the path to her current role, and her duties and responsibilities running an in-house legal department in terms of strategic leadership, governance, compliance, data privacy, IT, intellectual property and employment law. This discussion will also cover the daily ethical standards and challenges of serving in an in-house role, and the heightened challenges and response presented by the unprecedented and very public cyberattack.
